BERTGO is a national community of nature lovers, outdoor adventurers, and environmental stewards committed to exploring and protecting Canada's extraordinary wilderness — from the Rockies to the Maritime coast.
Who We Are
Founded in 2008, BERTGO began as a small hiking club in Banff, Alberta. Today we are one of Canada's most respected nature organisations — uniting thousands of members across all provinces in a shared mission to explore, document, and defend our natural heritage.
We lead conservation projects that protect old-growth forests, wetlands, and alpine ecosystems across Canada.
Professionally led treks, climbs, and canoe journeys designed for all skill levels — safe, inspiring, unforgettable.
Youth programmes, nature workshops, and citizen science initiatives that build the next generation of conservation advocates.
Our Purpose
Everything we do is guided by a deep respect for the natural world and a responsibility to future generations of Canadians.
A Canada where every citizen lives in harmony with nature — where wild places are celebrated, protected, and accessible to all; where environmental responsibility is woven into the national identity.
To connect Canadians with their natural environment through guided expeditions, education, and advocacy — empowering communities to become active guardians of Canada's ecological future.
The principles that guide every step we take in the field and in our communities:
